When teeth are missing, the adjacent ones can change position, drifting into the surrounding space. Teeth that are out of position can damage tissues in the mouth. Dentures are replacements for missing teeth that can be taken out and put back into your mouth. Dentures require some time to get used to, and will never feel exactly the same as ones natural teeth. But todays dentures are natural looking and more comfortable than ever.
Gaps left by missing teeth can cause problems with eating and speech. Also, the teeth on either side of the gap may grow into the space at an angle. Sometimes all the teeth need to be removed and replaced.
You may therefore need either:
- complete dentures (a full set), which replace all your upper or lower teeth, or
- partial dentures, which replace just one or a few missing teeth
